Ludwigshafen , Germany – May 26, 2011 – BASF will build the world¡Çs largest single-train TDI (toluene diisocyanate) plant in Europe. The plant will have a capacity of 300,000 metric tons per year and will be fully integrated with precursor production. The TDI plant will be located at one of the company¡Çs integrated Verbund sites in Antwerp, Belgium or Ludwigshafen, Germany and will start production in 2014. Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Toppan Printing; head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Shingo Kaneko) and Arisawa Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as Arisawa Mfg.; head office: Joetsu-shi, Niigata; President & Chief Executive Officer: Sanji Arisawa) have agreed, as of May 10, 2011, on a business tie-up regarding patterned retardation film (FPR) for 3D-compatible displays adopting the passive method, which, through polarized glasses, shows different images concurrently to the right eye and the left eye.
Based on this agreement, the two companies are establishing on June 01, 2011 a joint venture company which engages in development of efficient mass-production technologies for patterned retardation films for 3D-compatible displays, and also manufacturing of such films.¡¡» Read More

Capacity utilization rates in the company¡Çs plants were good; in particular, demand in the chemicals business (Chemicals, Plastics, Performance Products, Functional Solutions) increased compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Sales grew by 25% to €19.4 billion. The Cognis businesses acquired in December 2010 made a significant contribution to this substantial sales growth. The earthquake off the coast of Japan and its aftermath as well as the tense political situation in North Africa have not yet had a significant impact on BASF¡Çs business.¡¡» Read More

Ludwigshafen , Germany – May 3, 2010 – BASF offers the packaging industry a variety of barrier solutions that demonstrate a high effectiveness in preventing mineral oil residues from migrating from cardboard food packaging into food. This has been confirmed through a series of studies conducted by the official Food Safety Authority of the Canton of Zurich on the BASF products Ultramid®, Epotal® A 816, Ecovio® FS Paper and specially developed dispersions. Four different solutions are available for coating every type of food packaging, including paper, cardboard and film. In 2010, a study by Zurich Food Safety Authority scientists using a dedicated measuring method had detected alarming levels of mineral oil residues from cardboard packaging in food.
