SÃO PAULO , BRAZIL , June 29th 2011 – BASF Crop Protection and Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA), the leading Brazilian agricultural research institution, signed an ambitious technical cooperation agreement to develop and bring new agriculture technologies and products to Brazilian growers. The cooperation brings together the expertise and know-how of both partners in the search for untapped agricultural solutions in the areas of biotechnology, genetic improvement, soil fertility and mechanization, plant protection, and physiology. June 1, 2011 – The EU Commission has today given its approval for the formation of the joint venture Styrolution. BASF SE, Ludwigshafen, Germany, and INEOS Industries Holdings Limited, Lyndhurst, UK, now have EU clearance to combine in Styrolution their global business activities in styrene monomers (SM), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), styrene-butadiene block copolymers (SBC) and other styrene-based copolymers (SAN, AMSAN, ASA, MABS) as well as copolymer blends. Pro forma sales of the combined businesses were €6.4 billion in 2010. Expandable polystyrene is not part of this transaction. BASF and INEOS will retain their respective businesses.””» Read More

Saudi Electricity Company and Showa Shell Sekiyu Sign MOU for Development of 500kW Solar Plant in Saudi Arabia

Tokyo, June 1, 2011 – Saudi Electricity Company and Showa Shell Sekiyu have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of a 500kW solar power plant on Farasan Island using Solar Frontier”Ēs leading edge CIS technology. Showa Shell Sekiyu subsidiary, Solar Frontier, completed the installation of its PV solar panels on the Saudi Arabia island and will soon commence production at the pilot plant. The project has the support of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Technology, and Industry (METI). This is the first plant in the Kingdom that is remotely installed and grid connected. It will displace 28,000 barrels of diesel during its life span, which will reduce the cost of diesel transport and handling while protecting the natural reserves of the island. The site is located at the Farasan Diesel Power Generation Plant of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).””» Read More
