Toray Buys Remaining Shares in French Carbon Fiber Manufacturing and Sales Subsidiary

Toray Industries, Inc. (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO : Akihiro Nikkaku; hereinafter referred to as ¡ÈToray¡É) today announced that it purchased the remaining shares in Société des Fibres¡¡de Carbone S.A. (¡ÈSOFICAR¡É), a subsidiary engaged in manufacturing and sales of carbon fibers in France, in which Toray held a 70% stake, from Arkema, the French business partner with a 30% stake in SOFICAR and made it into a wholly owned subsidiary. Along with the purchase of the remaining stake, Toray is renaming SOFICAR as Toray Carbon Fibers Europe S.A. (SDK) has completed additional production line for VGCFTM (vapor-grown carbon fiber) at Kawasaki Plant, Kanagawa Prefecture, thereby increasing total production capacity for the product from 100 t/y to 200 t/y. The Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) - German Institute for Construction Technology - in Berlin has given BASF's Styrodur® 3035 CS, Styrodur 4000 CS and Styrodur 5000 CS (XPS: extruded rigid polystyrene foam) technical approval for multiple layers as perimeter insulation in groundwater [no. Z-23.5-223]. As of now, the XPS boards can be used for multiple layers of external insulation for structural components in contact with the ground (perimeter insulation).
