1. Introduction
Polyvinylidene-dichloride copolymer (PVDC) latex has been used as coating materials of barrier film for food packaging with its excellent gas barrier property. Paper coating has been also earlier main use than film coating in Europe and USA. But in accordance with the change of main role in packaging materials to the film, the demand of PVDC coated paper has gradually decreased. On the other hand , recently in Japan many kinds of converted paper has been produced in large quantities. In these product, PE laminated paper converted for improving moisture proofing properties has been used widely. This PE laminated paper can not be recycled easily without particular equipment. So, this paper does not match the conventional waste paper recycling system in Japan. The advance of paper recycling system has been requested as viewpoint of resources conservation and environmental problems.
Under these condition, PVDC coated paper has again attracted attention as the moisture proof paper which can be recycled with conventional paper recycling system. In this paper, PVDC coated paper is surveyed with focusing recyclable moisture proof paper use.
