1. Introduction

At present, in terms of environmental issue such as dioxine, barrier materials containing chlorine represented by PVDC tends to avoid.
Our company has been producing and selling PVOH ¡ÈPOVAL¡É for a long time. It is well known that PVOH has high oxygen barrier property at low humidity. But in high humidity over 70%RH, its barrier property goes down dramatically and it can not be used as a barrier material of food packaging.
On the other hand, our company has ¡ÈEVAL¡É well known as barrier material for food packaging. Its barrier property at high humidity has improved in comparison with PVOHs. However, EVAL is insoluble in water. The way of using it is melt forming.
To meet the needs of the market in substitution for PVDC by considering the present PVDC coating is either liquid coating or emulsion coating, barrier material with water soluble and excellent oxygen barrier property at high humidity is indispensable. It is water soluble barrier material ¡ÈEXCEVAL¡É (AQ polymer) that were developed under such a background.
