TOPPAN unveiling performance data for upgraded CCMs and MEAs ideal for green hydrogen production using renewable energy at Hydrogen Technology World Expo 2026

Tokyo – October 8, 2026 –TOPPAN Holdings Inc. announced its upcoming participation at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo scheduled to be held in Hamburg, Germany, from October 20 to 22.

As one of Europe’s leading hydrogen technology related events, Hydrogen Technology World Expo enjoys participation from a broad spectrum of companies across the hydrogen supply chain. The TOPPAN Holdings booth (no. 7G48) will present high-performance and high-quality electrode components (CCMs and MEAs) that can be applied in various processes involved in the production, storage, distribution, and utilization of hydrogen.

Background
Countries and regions around the world are advancing measures to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, including renewable energy use and initiatives to enable a hydrogen society. There are high expectations for hydrogen as an energy source because it is generated from an abundant resource in the form of water and no CO2 is emitted when used.

For the practical use of hydrogen in society, Catalyst Coated Membranes (CCMs) and Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs) are critical components that determine the efficiency and economic performance of hydrogen-related applications. To this end, TOPPAN Holdings has been conducting CCM and MEA research and development since 2004 to address challenges related to performance and durability. Building on these efforts, TOPPAN aims to expand its provision of CCMs and MEAs to Europe and other markets throughout the world.

Main Solutions on Show
The booth will showcase high-performance, high-quality CCMs and MEAs that are fabricated using proprietary materials, a sheet-to-sheet process and double-sided direct coating technique developed by TOPPAN Holdings.

① CCMs for water electrolysis
Alongside a 600×800 mm CCM display, TOPPAN will unveil for the first time the core specifications of its upgraded CCMs. TOPPAN Holdings' CCMs feature high durability against voltage fluctuations, making them ideally suited for water electrolysis powered by renewable energy and contributing to the expanded adoption of green hydrogen.

TOPPAN Holdings is advancing the development of large-area CCMs in the 1.5 m × 2.5 m class. Adopting these large-area CCMs is expected to lower both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) by reducing the required number of CCM sheets and auxiliary equipment, while also contributing to lower power consumption.

② MEAs for fuel cells
TOPPAN Holdings will present five- and seven-layer MEAs stacked with subgaskets1 and GDLs2 that employ the TOPPAN Holding’s proprietary catalyst layer design technology. By utilizing patented proprietary materials, the technology achieves both high voltage retention performance and superior durability, even under high-load operating conditions. Consequently, applications that were previously restricted to low-load operation to preserve durability can now achieve higher power output through high-load operation, directly meeting the needs of customers seeking high-output solutions.

③ Reaction Enhancement Plate (REP)
The Reaction Enhancement Plate (REP) developed by TOPPAN Holdings is a metallic plate featuring precision micro-slits. Integrating it into a fuel cell stack increases overall system power output without requiring modifications to the MEA. At this exhibition, TOPPAN Holdings will display the REP alongside a mockup of the fuel cell stack used during testing and reveal evaluation data demonstrating its power enhancement performance for the first time.
